The Head of People role
As Head of People at Light, you will build and scale the team shaping the future of finance software. You’ll own the full people function from talent strategy and hiring to culture, performance, and development. You’ll work closely with the founders to design how we grow: who we hire, how we work, and what it feels like to be part of Light.
You’ll have the autonomy to build from first principles, create an exceptional employee experience, and help scale one of Europe’s most exciting early-stage companies.
How you fit into the team
You will be Light’s first Head of People, owning the people strategy end-to-end. This is not a classic HR role. It is about building a high-performance culture, creating a world-class employee experience, and designing systems that scale with growth. You will report directly to leadership and be a key partner shaping how Light grows its team globally.
What you will be doing
Performance Reviews: Design and run a transparent, impactful process that helps high-performers thrive and keeps expectations clear.
Compensation Strategy: Review compensation across the company, make adjustments where needed, and build a scalable global compensation structure.
Talent Strategy: Partner with Talent Acquisition on an ambitious hiring plan to add 30 people to the team across both departments and geographies (Europe and US) in the next 12 months. We’ve in the process of implementing Ashby.
Employment Compliance: Ensure Light operates compliantly across multiple jurisdictions, keeping contracts, policies, and practices consistent and fit-for-purpose as we scale (with external legal support). We’re a mix of FTEs, contractors and EORs.
People Onboarding: Build and run a world-class onboarding process that connects every new joiner with people and makes them productive from day one.
Leadership Partnering: Support Light’s leadership team with org design, people development, and building best practices.
Culture and Starsite: Ensure our values and hybrid ways of working scale with us, and lead the planning and organisation of our Starsite offsites as a core part of Light’s culture. We run Starsites two times a year.
Your qualifications could be
4 - 7 years of experience in People, HR, or Talent roles, ideally in high-growth tech or FinTech scale-ups.
Strong track record building performance review systems that help teams grow.
Experience designing and implementing compensation structures across multiple markets.
Proven ability to create and execute hiring strategies with TA teams, scaling from dozens to hundreds of employees.
Experience building and running onboarding processes across an organisation.
Good working knowledge of employment compliance across the UK and Europe.
Bonus points
Trusted advisor to leadership with excellent communication skills.
Highly pragmatic: you know when to add structure and when to keep it lean.
Experience working in multinational and distributed teams.
Background in leadership coaching, L&D, or scaling culture across geographies.
Experience organising company offsites or large-scale team events.
Built People functions from 0 to 1 in a startup.
