Multi-Entity Consolidation

What is this page about: Light's consolidated report view combines the financial results of multiple entities into a single report, with a dedicated column for intercompany eliminations. This page explains what the consolidated view shows, how to run a consolidated report, which filters are available, and how comparison mode, reordering, drilldown, and eliminations work.

What does consolidation show?

Light's multi-entity consolidation view combines the financial results of multiple entities into one report, with per-entity columns plus a Subtotal, an Eliminations column, and a final Consolidated figure. When you select multiple entities and switch to consolidated view, the report displays:

Column Description
[Entity name] One column per selected entity showing that entity's figures
Subtotal Sum of all individual entity columns
Eliminations Reversing entries that offset intercompany amounts flagged for elimination (see How are eliminations calculated?, below)
Consolidated Subtotal plus Eliminations — the final consolidated figure. Elimination amounts carry the opposite sign of the amounts they eliminate, so adding them removes the intercompany effect

How do I run a consolidated report?

To run a consolidated report in Light, open any financial statement report and switch the entity selector to Consolidated:

  1. In Light, navigate to Planning & Reports → Reports
  2. Open any financial statement report (Balance Sheet, P&L, etc.)
  3. In the entity selector, click Consolidated
  4. Select the entities to include
  5. Set the date range, currency, and any other filters
  6. The report renders with per-entity columns plus Subtotal, Eliminations, and Consolidated

Good to know: The "Consolidated" option appears at the top of the entity selector dropdown alongside individual entities.

What filters are available in consolidated view?

Consolidated view supports five filters: entity selector, date range, currency, comparison period, and custom properties.

Filter Notes
Entity selector Multi-select with a Consolidated toggle at the top
Date range Start and end date for the report period
Currency Entity Crcy (each entity in its own functional currency) or Group Crcy (all entities translated to the group currency). If the selected entities have different local currencies, choosing Entity Crcy shows an error ("Selected entities have different currencies") and the report won't generate in that view — use Group Crcy to combine them
Comparison Compare with 1, 3, 6, 9, or 12 prior months, or 1, 2, or 3 prior years
Custom properties Filter report data by custom property values

How does comparison mode work in consolidated view?

When a comparison period is selected in consolidated view, Light hides the individual entity columns and shows only two columns:

  • Consolidated — current period consolidated figure
  • Consolidated [comparison label] — the prior period consolidated figure

This keeps the report readable when comparing across time.

How do I reorder entity columns?

Click Entity order (the ↕ icon button above the report) to reorder the entity columns via drag and drop. The updated order is saved and persists for all users.

How does drilldown work in consolidated view?

Clicking any cell in consolidated view drills into the underlying ledger transactions, and the scope depends on which column you click:

  • Clicking an entity column — drilldown is filtered to that entity only. The drilldown title shows the row label (e.g. Accounts Receivable).
  • Clicking the Subtotal, Eliminations, or Consolidated column — drilldown spans all entities. The title shows the row label plus the column type (e.g. Accounts Receivable — Consolidated).

Drilldown results can be filtered further and exported as CSV.

How are eliminations calculated?

In Light, eliminations are driven by the Intercompany rules tab, under Accounting. Lines flagged with the Eliminate column in intercompany journal entries generate reversing entries on a dedicated elimination ledger, offset against the system elimination account — these are what appear in the Eliminations column. The intercompany journal entries themselves live under Journal entries → Intercompany.
