How to Attach a Receipt

After you've made a purchase with your Light card, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Light app and go to Cards
  2. Find the transaction you just made in your recent activity
  3. Tap on the transaction to view details
  4. Use the upload area to add your receipt: drop it in, browse to select a file, or take a photo of the physical receipt
  5. Light's AI reads and attaches the receipt automatically. There is no separate review step: once processing finishes, the receipt is saved and shown on the transaction

Your receipt is now attached and your finance team can see it.

What Light's AI Does

Once you attach a receipt, Light automatically reads:

  • Merchant name
  • Transaction date
  • Total amount
  • Currency

Light saves these automatically once processing finishes, so there's nothing extra to confirm. If anything ever needs correcting, you can update the transaction details directly.

Other Ways to Attach a Receipt

Any of these routes works too, whichever is easiest:

  • Email: send the receipt to your company's receipt email address, and Light will match it to the right transaction
  • Slack or Microsoft Teams: if your company has either connected, reply to the missing-receipt message with the file directly in that thread
  • Gmail: if the Gmail integration is enabled for your company, Light can fetch matching receipts from your inbox automatically

Multiple Receipts

Each card transaction holds a single receipt file. If you have several pages or images for one purchase, combine them into a single PDF before uploading. To swap a receipt, remove the existing one from the transaction and attach the new file.

What Happens If You Don't Attach a Receipt

Light notifies you as soon as a card transaction goes through and a receipt is missing. If your company has Slack or Microsoft Teams connected, you'll get a "We are missing a receipt from your card transaction" message. Upload the receipt directly in that thread and Light will attach it to the transaction.

If your company has the Gmail integration enabled, Light can also fetch the receipt from your inbox automatically.

To keep things smooth and avoid delays, attach receipts as soon as you can after your purchase.

Tips for Receipt Photos

  • Make sure the receipt is fully visible and in focus
  • Capture the entire receipt including the total amount
  • Use good lighting so text is easy to read
  • PDF receipts, for example from email, work too
  • Supported file types: PDF, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, HEIF, and TIFF
  • Maximum file size: 10MB per receipt
