Perlego has chosen Light to bring royalties, revenue and finance across its UK and US entities onto one platform, replacing Xero, spreadsheets and a patchwork of point tools.
The digital library offers more than 1.5 million books to readers in 190 countries. Every read earns a royalty, creating a steady workload of monthly accruals, publisher invoices across currencies and accounting periods, and self-billing.
The same finance team also manages institutional contracts and high-volume subscriptions. It needed one system to support that complexity without adding headcount.

The business case was simple. I want our team spending their time on impactful, commercial work rather than manual month-end processing. We can see a future where most of our month-end is automated, which frees the team up to upskill and take on work that actually moves the business. Six months after going live, I want us to look back and wonder how we ever got everything done before.
Building before buying
The Perlego finance team, led by Finance Director Tarryn Hanbidge, worked hands-on in Light at its London Global Finance Hackathon before the evaluation began. The team is now shaping the royalty workflows they'll run on.
What’s moving onto Light
- Publisher royalties: Accruals by publisher, invoices matched against royalty data, and self-billing with built-in approvals.
- Revenue: Contract-based B2B invoicing, automated deferred revenue, and real-time D2C subscription data from Stripe.
- Spend and consolidation: AP, cards and multi-currency payments, with consolidated reporting across the UK and US entities.
The move is underway, starting with the workflows that take up the most team time.
