What Light is (and the problem it solves)

Light is a finance platform that automates approvals, reporting, and ops. Light for Slack brings those workflows into Slack so your team can:

  • Approve faster: approvers get a direct message in Slack the moment a bill is submitted.

  • Ask anything: DM @Light to ask questions in plain English (e.g., “What’s our policy on hotel spend?“).

  • Reduce context-switching: review context and jump into Light when needed—right from Slack.

How it works in Slack

  • Bill approval notifications (trigger): When a bill is submitted in Light, approvers receive a DM from Light in Slack with key details and a link to review/approve in Light.

Install Light for Slack (inside Light)


Prerequisites

  • A Light account with access to Settings → Integrations

  • Slack permissions to install apps (your Slack admin may need to approve)


Steps

  1. Log in to Light

  2. Go to Settings → Integrations → Slack

  3. Click Add to Slack and complete the Slack authorization

  4. Choose your Slack workspace and approve the requested scopes

  5. You’ll be redirected back to Light with a confirmation that Slack is connected


Get started (what to do next)

  1. Verify approvers in Light (ensure the right people are set as approvers).

  2. Run a test: submit a small test bill in Light; the designated approver should receive a DM from Light in Slack.

  3. Try Q&A: DM @Light and ask “What’s pending for my approval?”

  4. Roll out: share these steps with your finance team so they know to DM @Light for help.

Privacy, Security & AI (short version)

  • Data handled: workspace ID, user IDs, team name, and configuration. Message content is processed transiently and not stored unless you enable a feature that requires it (e.g., syncing a message into Light).

  • Retention: operational logs up to 30 days; security/audit logs up to 12 months. Uninstall revokes tokens immediately; Slack-related metadata is queued for deletion within 24 hours (backups age out ≤ 35 days).

  • Storage: data encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+); customer-level logical isolation; secrets stored in a hardened secrets manager. Residency follows your Light account setting (EU or US; EU by default if unspecified).

  • AI/LLM disclosure: Light may use a hosted LLM to answer questions. We do not use Slack data to train models. Provider logs are minimized (target ≤ 30 days) for abuse monitoring and follow your residency where supported.
