Users at Light mainly correspond to employees at your company, but can also contain third-party users (such as book keepers or auditors) that you decide to give access to the system.

At Light, the user object has a few core properties:
A user can belong to only one company-entity. This relationship is for reimbursement and card expense purposes mainly, and ensures that transactions recorded by the user is reflected in the correct entity without the end-user needing to pick
A user can belong to none, one or many groups. Groups are a collection of users that can be used in workflows.
A user will have a preferred communication channel. This can be Slack, Teams or the webapp. The channel can be set per user, so a company can onboard both Teams and Slack for sending communication flows. This is used for sending notifications to the user. If the user is a ‘power-user’ and receives a lot of notifications (e.g. more than 10 a week) we recommend changing to webapp as it keeps noise to a minimum. Power users will need a habit of logging into the webapp to check if there are any tasks for them. Webapp can also be used for third-party users that do not have access to the Company team or slack environment, e.g. auditor or a Board member that needs to be in the approval matrix
The user can also have one or many Managers. The manager is used to route approval up a manager chain, and enables complex approval flows (see more on approval matrix).
Lastly, the user can have one or many access roles. Access roles at Light are multi-select and a user can receive many access roles. The tab “Access roles” under users, specifies which roles are currently available and the permissions they give.
To onboard a new user, simply click “Add user+” in the top right corner of the user page and fill in the details.
Users can also be synched with your HR system, to automatically on- and offboard users based on changes in your HR system.
To offboard an existing user, click on the user and click "Archive" in the bottom left of the user-card.
Groups
Groups can be created and users can be added to groups. Groups can be leveraged for different workflows, e.g. approving Journal Entries, AP bills, contracts etc.
Groups have

Employee view
Employees and users that do not have admin access, can see their own user details at any time by clicking on the dropdown arrow in the top left, next to their company logo (here it is to the right of the Light, Inc text)

The dropdown has two options, and if you click settings you will see the following options for editing your own user profile.
As the email is linked to outside systems (slack, teams, other applications), they are not editable.
