This Payment Backend Engineer role is focused on…

• Designing and implementing new payment services and integrations with banks, card networks, and financial partners.

• Building APIs and backend systems that power cross-border payments, virtual cards, and expense flows.

• Leading technical projects end-to-end: scoping, architecture, development, and delivery.

• Scaling backend infrastructure to support growing transaction volumes while keeping systems simple and maintainable.

• Collaborating with product, design, and other engineers to bring new financial workflows to market quickly.
  
  

Your qualifications could be:

• 4+ years of experience building backend systems for high-availability products.

• Proven experience with payments, fintech, or financial systems (e.g., card issuing, acquiring, SEPA, SWIFT, open banking APIs).

• Strong skills in backend development with Kotlin, Java, Go, or Python, and solid experience with relational databases (Postgres or similar).

• Experience designing APIs, microservices, and scalable distributed systems.

• Track record of delivering complex technical projects from start to finish.

• Collaborative communicator with project management skills. 

Bonus points:

• Direct experience integrating with card networks, payment gateways, or banking partners.

• Built or scaled payment services in a high-growth startup.

• Familiarity with AWS infrastructure, Docker, or Kubernetes.

• Knowledge of financial compliance requirements (AML, PSD2, PCI DSS, etc.).
